As the victim of a car accident, you may be in a difficult position. You have to miss work while you recover, and if your injuries are severe enough, you may not be able to return to work. You have mounting medical bills, a damaged vehicle and financial losses of other kinds. The person who hits you should be responsible for those losses, which is why you can file a claim against the person who caused the accident.
It’s not uncommon to be involved in a car accident, but what is uncommon is being involved in one linked to a shooting. According to a report from Sept. 12 on the La Vergne Patch, a vehicle ran a red light and hit a car. The driver of that car was injured, needing medical treatment.
While that seems relatively straightforward, this accident was a result of a shooting that took place minutes earlier. A man had been shot outside a business near Murfreesboro and Stones River Road; he and a driver got into a vehicle and fled the scene.
It was that driver who ran the red light and collided with the victim’s vehicle. The news suggests that one of the two injured parties, either the man who was shot or the driver of the second vehicle, was listed in critical condition.
After a crash like this, victims have a right to seek out compensation. While police may be looking into charges separate from the accident itself, victims still have the opportunity to file civil lawsuits against anyone who causes them injuries or causes damage to their vehicles.
